Tapping for overwhelm with Christmas and COVID.

At this time of year, when stress levels can be elevated and with the added anxiety of omicron/COVID, EFT (aka: tapping) is a quick and easy method used to overcome these worries.

EFT focuses on the meridian (or energy) hot spots – to restore balance to your body’s energy. This can relieve symptoms a negative experience or emotion may have caused.

Give it a go by following these simple instructions:

Set up Statement

Think about your overwhelm, stress or anxiety and where in your body you feel it. Have a think about how strongly you feel it on a scale of 0-10 with 0 being the lowest and 10 the highest. *Top Tip*: write this down. 

Tap continuously on the Karate Chop point while you say your set up statement three times aloud (or in your head), you can vary what you say each time – e.g.

“Even though I feel overwhelmed and feel a heavy weight on my chest at the thought of creating the perfect Christmas, providing gifts for everyone and cooking a dinner everyone will enjoy, I completely love and accept myself.” (You can say whatever you like here, make sure it really feels right to you)

Tap the points on the diagram using the statement. 

Start tapping the points in sequence starting at the top of the head. 

Tap 5-7 times on each point, lightly. You can shorten the statement you say and change it slightly as you move around the tapping points; follow your intuition and go with what feels right – e.g

“Even though I’m worried about everyone staying healthy, even though I feel this tightness in my chest caused by my worry, even though I’m worried about the financial cost of providing a good Christmas for everyone.”

Once you’ve done a round or two like this then tap using positive statements rephrasing what you have just said – e.g.

“I choose to be free from worry, I trust everyone will stay well at Christmas, I know I have the tools to ensure I stick to my Christmas budget etc.”

Once you have tapped around the body 3/4 times, check in with your original statement and re-calibrate where it is on the scale of 0-10. Keep tapping until it’s below a 2 and ideally a 0.
